IPF and Beyond: Towards a Holistic Therapeutic Approach at the AIPO/ITS 2025 Congress
By Prof. Luca Richeldi
Dear colleagues and fellow pulmonologists,
I am delighted to announce my participation in the 26th National Congress of Italian Pulmonology (AIPO/ITS), which this year will be held in the splendid setting of Verona, from November 14 to 16, 2025.
The theme of the congress, “PULMONOLOGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT: a breath outside these walls,” emphasizes the importance of broadening our clinical and research horizons.
My focus, as many of you know, remains the complex and rapidly evolving area of pulmonary fibrosis, particularly Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).
I invite you to attend the session on Sunday, November 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., entitled “CURRENT AND FUTURE TREATMENTS FOR IPF AND SARCOIDOSIS.”
During my presentation, entitled “Holistic therapeutic approach to IPF and new drugs,” I will have the opportunity to discuss the progress made and the challenges that lie ahead.
Although the introduction of anti-fibrotic therapies has been a breakthrough, the management of IPF requires a perspective that goes beyond simple pharmacology. It is essential to adopt a holistic approach, integrating pulmonary rehabilitation, comorbidity management, and psychological support, to truly improve the quality of life of our patients.
At the same time, research continues to move forward. We will discuss the latest pharmacological developments in the pipeline, which promise to act on new pathogenetic targets, offering real hope for a future in which IPF can be managed more effectively.
It will be a pleasure to share the stage with distinguished colleagues such as Dr. Stefania Cerri, who will address the heterogeneity of Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis (PPF), and Prof. Venerino Poletti, who will take stock of therapeutic decisions in Sarcoidosis.
I look forward to seeing you in Verona for a stimulating and essential discussion on clinical updates.
