The Importance of a Multidisciplinary Approach to IPF and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis – Reflections by Luca Richeldi
By Prof. Luca Richeldi
I am pleased to announce my participation as a speaker in the theoretical-practical course ‘IPF & Friends’, a crucial event to be held in Forlì at the G.B. Morgagni - L. Pierantoni Hospital on 11 and 12 March 2026.
This event, promoted by AIPO and ITS, continues to be a point of reference for the scientific community engaged in the fight against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and other fibrotic lung diseases.
The rationale behind this course is clear: IPF is a complex disease, but recent research and guidelines have refined our ability to communicate clearly and adopt an effective multidisciplinary approach.
As part of the 7th Session, scheduled for the morning of Thursday 12 March 2026, I will have the opportunity to present a fundamental topic: 'IPF & Friends. New Treatment on the Horizon‘. It is an exciting time to discuss the latest therapeutic advances and future prospects for patients with these serious diseases.
The ’IPF & Friends" model is successful because it is aimed at sharing ideas and data in a truly multidisciplinary way, which is essential for increasing our knowledge of progressive pulmonary fibrotic diseases. The introduction of anti-fibrotic drugs has broadened the therapeutic scope, and discussion on topics such as the introduction of transbronchial cryobiopsy or pathogenetic similarities with other interstitial diseases is vital for clinical progress.
The course is coordinated by the Scientific Director, Professor Venerino Poletti, and will feature an exceptional faculty, with specialists from Italian and international centres such as Milan, Ancona, Padua, Rome, London, Oslo and Aarhus.
I look forward to seeing you in Forlì to contribute to another successful edition of IPF & Friends.
